Central Port of Elefsina continues handling steel products, fertilizers and quartz sand

ISM has been said that steel products, fertilizers and quartz sand remain the most popular cargoes handled at the Central Commercial Port of Elefsina. The annual throughput of the terminal averages 700,000 tonnes. Loading and unloading operations are performed with the help of 19 portal cranes with a lifting capacity up to 200 tons, including four cranes equipped with grabs.

The Central Port welcomes ships at two piers with a depth of 7.5 to 8 meters. The Big pier is 300 m long and 80 m wide, while the Small pier separates the Central Port from the Old Port and is about 165 m long and 7 m wide. Note, however, that dry cargoes are served at the Big pier only. The average discharge rate of steel coils is 1,000 tonnes per day. Meanwhile, the average daily discharge rate of quartz sand is about 200 tonnes per crane per weather working days. Note that sand is transferred directly on trucks.

The terminal does not have a rail connection. The area of ​​open warehouses totals about 25,000 sq. m.

The port operates in several shifts. Normal port working is from 08:00 till 15:30 from Monday to Friday. Overtime can arrange from 16:00 up to 19:00 from Monday to Friday and from 08:00 up to 14:00 on weekends.
