Waiting times when calling Reni and Izmail ports increased to 13-16 days

According to brokers and agents, the situation with downtime at the entrance to the Sulina Canal continues to worsen. At the moment, the downtime of vessels moving to Reni and Izmail reaches 13-16 days. More than 80 dry cargo vessels got stuck at the entrance to the canal.

At the same time, the average waiting time for vessels heading for Romanian ports of Braila, Galati and Tulcea is 2-4 days.

Note that longer downtime not only leads to higher charterers’ transportation costs via increased rates and demurrage payments, but also results in more sluggish fleet turnover. In the end this leads to shortening vessel list and triggers freight rate upturn in the region.
