Sentiment turns negative on SE Asian Supramax/Ultramax market

Supramax/Ultramax TCT rates have sagged considerably in SE Asia. Players report the shortage of fresh cargo requests on almost all routes in the region, with only some coal offers ex Indo to China still entering the market. However, these volumes are freely absorbed by excessive tonnage list and owners have no choice but to lower ideas. Thus, corresponding TCT rates have dropped by $3-4k daily from last week’s levels.

As for the Chinese/SE Asian direction:

A modern Ultramax ship has been fixed on subs at $33.5k daily bss DOP Makassar via Indo redel Thailand;

The contract for a 57k dwt vessel bss dely Samalaju via Indo redel China has been signed at $22k daily with spot laycans;

A 55k dwt carrier has been fixed at $25k daily bss dely Singapore via Indo redel China;

A 53k dwt ship has been chartered at mid-$20s k daily bss dely Malaysia via Indo redel Thailand;

On the voyage basis, transportation of 50,000 t of coal from S.Kali to Guangzhou with 8,000c/12,000c l/d rates is estimated by ISM at $19.5/t (1.75/t down from last week).

With regard to the Indian direction:

A 56k dwt vessel has been fixed at $31.5k daily bss dely Singapore via Indo redel WCI;

On the voyage basis, the contract for shipment of 50,000 t of coal from S.Kali to ECI has been signed at $32.5/t with late June - early July laycans (equivalent to $36.5k daily bss dely S.China).

As for Aussie RVs and other routes:

A 53k dwt carrier has been fixed on subs at $23k daily for iron ore transportation bss APS Malaysia redel Vietnam;

Charterers pay $27k daily for Supramax nickel ore shipments bss New Caledonia RV dely Far East.

The SE Asian Handysize segment stays unfavorable for owners, with limited cargo traffic from both Indonesia and Aussie, as well as with long list of vessels open in the region. Relevant TCT rates have sagged by another $0.5k daily from last done levels.

As for SE Asia RVs:

A 32k dwt ship has been fixed at $19.5k daily for copper concentrates transportation bss dely Vietnam via Indo redel China;

Another carrier of 32k dwt has been fixed on subs at $13k daily for an alumina shipment bss dely Philippines via Indonesia redel Malaysia;

A 28k dwt vessel has been chartered at $20.5k daily for sugar transportation bss dely Vietnam via Thailand redel Indonesia;

Another ship of 28k dwt has been fixed on subs at low $20s k daily bss DOP Indo redel Singapore-Japan.

With regard to Aussie RVs and back-haul routes:

A 38k dwt carrier has been fixed at $23k daily for a salt shipment bss dely Singapore via Aussie redel Taiwan;

Another large Handysize ship has been fixed on subs at $38k daily bss dely Indo redel Continent;

A 32k dwt vessel has been chartered at $25k daily for salt transportation bss dely Gresik via W.Aussie redel China;

The contract for a Handymax ship bss dely CJK via Aussie redel Singapore-Japan is discussed at low-mid $20s k daily;

On the voyage basis, carrying 27,500 t of alumina from E.Australia to Lianyungang with 20,000c/12,000c l/d rates is estimated by ISM at $50.5/t ($0.5/t down from last week).
